Recognition Illustrates DreamBox Learning’s Dedication to Adapting to Individualized Student Learning

BELLEVUE, Wash. — January 06, 2022 — Reading Plus, a DreamBox Learning digital literacy solution that uses personalized instruction to improve students’ reading proficiency, today announced it earned the Learner Variability Product Certification from Digital Promise, a nonprofit developed to spur innovation in education and enhance learning opportunities for all through technology and research. The Learner Variability Product Certification serves as a rigorous, reliable signal for district and school administrators, educators, and families seeking evidence of EdTech solutions that are committed to learner variability before implementing in the classroom.

Reading Plus is an adaptive literacy program designed to support educators with providing differentiated instruction for all students, including Tiers 1-3 and multilingual learners. Used by more than 1 million students, Reading Plus improves striving students’ reading proficiency by 2.0-2.5 grade levels in a single school year when used with fidelity. Reading Plus was acquired by DreamBox Learning, the leading education technology provider, in August 2021.

“This certification from Digital Promise is another example of DreamBox’s commitment to improving student achievement by meeting each student right where they are,” said Tim Hudson, PhD, Chief Learning Officer of DreamBox Learning. “Our programs engage all students in effective and engaging personalized learning experiences, while equipping educators with unique insights that can inform their instructional decisions throughout the school year.”

To meet the product certification criteria, Reading Plus proved that it supports the variability of learners; is designed to help students’ social-emotional learning; can aid cognitive abilities or personal backgrounds; adjusts for learners to meet their varying needs; publicly communicates how and the types of students who can benefit from the program; and incorporates input from educators and diverse learners into the tool to inform the design elements.

“Educators and families want to know that EdTech products support a broad range of learners,” said Vic Vuchic, Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Director of the Learner Variability Project at Digital Promise. “This certification celebrates those products that are intentionally designed for the whole child and allow learners to make adjustments based on their needs.”

Digital Promise launched the EdTech product certifications in February 2020. The certifications use a competency-based learning framework, developed in consultation with Digital Promise’s Learner Variability Project advisory board, expert researchers, and nearly 50 educators across the United States. In October 2020, Reading Plus received the Research-Based Design product certification.

DreamBox’s Reading Plus solution is rated “Strong” by Johns Hopkins’ EvidenceforESSA.org in reading demonstrating a statistically significant effect on improving student outcomes. In 2020, the program doubled its content library to over 2,500 engaging and diverse selections to provide students with meaningful representation and culturally responsive texts as they grow into global, lifelong learners.
